According to Realtor.com, well landscaped homes sell for up to 5.5% to 12.7% higher than homes with unappealing yards. Here are some tips from Seaport Real Estate to update your yard without breaking the bank this spring.
1. Touch Up Your Mulch
Applying a fresh layer of mulch or whichever ground cover you use instantly improves the look of your yard. You can pick up FREE chip/mulch material from the Chatham County drop-off yard waste centers during normal operating hours. Make sure to bring your own containers!
2. Trim & Cut
Take time to prune overgrown trees and shrubs to give you lawn a more polished look. An overgrown yard will seem neglected. Make sure your lawn is trimmed, including the edges of your driveway and sidewalk.
Power-washing dirty surfaces, such as driveways and sidewalks, will make your home look brand new! Power-washers also work on fences, brick, and vinyl siding. If you do not wish to purchase a power-washer, you can hire a professional to do the work or rent one as well!
4. Get a Free Consultation
There is no need to hire a landscape architect to revamp your yard. Many local garden centers will provide free, or inexpensive consultations if you buy your plants from them.
5. Buy Plants in Bulk
Talk to your local garden center and see if they offer bulk pricing. If so, choose three or four different plan varieties instead of dozens. Having more plants of the same variety will make upkeep easier, and will help give your yard a uniform look.
6. Add Interest with Planters
Putting planters at the front door where potential buyers enter and exit your home will add dimension and interest to entryways, and will spark inspiration for how they will design the landscaping.
