Orchestrated by the Coastal Jazz Association for 36 years, the Savannah Jazz Festival is an entirely free week long event featuring the best in low country jazz and blues. The Festival hosts both internationally acclaimed and regionally prominent artists, and always pays tribute to our region’s great military bands with their performances.
While the festival has been going on all week at various venues throughout Savannah, tonight, September 21st, the festival culminates in an epic three day free concert in Forsyth Park ending Saturday evening, September 23rd. This event is the perfect date night – pack a picnic, bottle of wine, and a couple of chairs to enjoy a night of soulful, live music and entertainment with your loved one (or the whole family!). This year’s featured headliners include jazz legend Wycliff Gordon, blues superstars Selwyn Birchwood and Victor Wainwright, intrepid jazz vocalist Carmen Bradford, Javon Jackson, and the Palmetto Latin Jazz Band.
Late-night jam sessions will take place Thurs-Friday at various venues downtown, including Rancho Alegre Cuban Restaurant, Mansion on Forsyth, and the DeSoto Hotel, where you can hear pure, free-style jazz as you enjoy a night cap.
The Coastal Jazz Association President, Howard Paul, explains ““We really provide a community service with this festival because it unites people of all color and class, improving our quality of life.” The Coastal Jazz Association is an all-volunteer organization with a passion for uniting people through America’s unique art form called Jazz. We encourage you to experience the Savannah Jazz Festival for yourself to see how truly moving and powerful it can be!
